LOCAL AREA NETWORK HAVING AT LEAST TWO RING SYSTEMS AND OPERATING IN ASYNCHRONOUS TRANSFERRING MODE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow the local area network to have plural network interfaces where cell exchange between ring systems is available and which are in operation in the asynchronous transfer mode. SOLUTION: The LAN is provided with at least two ring systems, each having two network interfaces (85, 89; 86, 90) and having respective bridge connections (83, 84; 87, 88). The 1st network interface 85 of the 1st ring system and the 1st network interface 86 of the 2nd ring system are coupled with the two ring systems via the 1st bridge connections 83, 84 to deliver a cell flow to the two ring systems and the 2nd network interface 89 of the 1st ring system and the 2nd network interface 90 of the 2nd ring system are coupled with each other via the 2nd bridge connections 87, 88 to deliver a cell flow to the two ring systems.
