PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To add a new block to conventional blacks in a disk storage space by preparing a new file in the conventional storage space of conventional blacks and applying an attribute. SOLUTION: A conventional file is prepared for logical operation (step 20) and a storage place for the conventional file is allocated (step 21). This file is initialized into the filing space requested for the new block (step 22). Afterwards, this file is marked with an unworked file (step 24). The nuworked file is initialized so as to have the attribute of block. Further, the storage area allocation of unworked file is mapped (step 26). This unworked file allocation map is compressed (step 28) and recorded the compressed map is recorded in a system memory (step 30). At such a time, any peculiar identification is applied to the unworked file allocation map so as to separate it from the original file identification of initialized file.
