To produce a combed sliver, a number of slivers are brought together to be combined into a lap which is wound into a roll. The feed is severed, when the roll is fully wound, for the roll to be transferred to a comber. The leading end of the new roll is spliced automatically to the trailing end of the lap roll at the comber, for combing. The combed lap is gathered into a combed sliver. Also claimed is an appts. with a winder to wind the gathered lap into a roll from a feed of gathered slivers. A transport system carries the wound lap roll to the comber for transfer to a holder for the new lap roll. An automatic splicer secures the leading end of the new lap roll to the trailing end of the old lap roll at the comber as it runs out. |
