A decoding section (2) in a picture recording/reproducing device (100) decodes the text data inserted into part of the vertical retrace interval of picture signals recorded in a recording/reproducing section (1), and an address detecting section (3) in the device (100) detects the address data of the section (1). In this processing, an external controller (200) stores the text data and address data sent from the device (100) in a storing section (12) as paired data. The controller (200) retrieves the address data corresponding to the text data designated by the user and sends the address data to the device (100). The retrieved address data are compared with the address data detected by the detecting section (3) by an address comparing section (6). A record/reproduction control section (7) controls the cueing in the recording/reproducing section (1).
