A back pressure filler has annular gas and liquid passages 13 and 8 connected by pipes 20, and the gas passage is provided with a gas valve 14 and pipe 15 leading to a filling element 10. The liquid and gas passages are connected with the liquid and gas in a reservoir 2 by pipes 9, and 16, 17 respectively. A container to be filled is introduced to the filling element 10, and is charged with gas via valve 14, pipe 15, and filling pipe 11, which comprises a gas 'pipe disposed within a liquid pipe, until the pressure in the container is equal to that in the liquid passage. The filling element 10 then opens automatically to allow liquid to enter the container. The waste gas is forced back into the gas passage, and excess gas passes via filter valve 19 into the float reservoir. The flow of gas through inlet and outlet valves 5 and pipes 27, 6 respectively is controlled by a float 4. In a second embodiment the introduction and escape of gas to and from the gas passage is governed by diaphragm valves 22, 23 (Fig. 2, not shown). In this embodiment there is no reservoir, but the liquid is conducted from the supply pipe 3 via a distributer member 21. |
