METHOD OF PRODUCING PACKAGES, FILLING THEM VERTICALLY WITH A FREE-FLOWING MATERIAL AND SEALING THEM

Described is method of producing packages, filling them vertically with a free-flowing material and sealing them, the packages (1) being made of flexible sealable material which is unwound from a roll, folded double and sealed along its length to form a tube. At intervals, the tube is conveyed approximately vertically downwards and free-flowing material introduced. Individual packages (1) are produced by cross-sealing (13) and cutting. In order to be able to produce large packages with a capacity of e.g. more than 1 litre simply and in order to be able to carry out the method described irrespective of the elasticity of the continuous strip of material used, the invention proposes that the strip of material (7) is processed as it passes along a processing line (12) located approximately vertically above the cross-sealing station (13) and the strip of material is in tension over the whole length of the processing line (12), a marker on the strip of material (7) being brought precisely into position relative to a photo-electric cell (29, 30).
