A digital signal recording/reproducing device which records/reproduces digital video signals. A high-efficiency coding means (109) codes digital video signals at a high efficiency, and recording means (123, 124 and 135) perform a prescribed coding of the video data coded at the high efficiency and record the coded video data on a recording medium (126). Reproducing means (127, 128 and 129) reproduce the video data recorded on the medium (126), perform a prescribed reproduced data processing of the reproduced video data, and output the processed video data. Delay means (137a and 137b) output the video data fed from the coding means (109) with a delay equal to the sum of the delay time due to the processing of the recording means (123, 124 and 125) and the delay time due to the processing of the reproducing means (127, 128 and 129), and a selecting means (141) selectively outputs either the video data outputted from the delay means (137a and 137b) or the video data outputted from the reproducing means (127, 128 and 129).
