A MULTIPLE COLLECTOR FOR ISOTOPE RATIO MASS SPECTROMETERS

There is described an isotope ratio mass spectrometer containing a sector magnet which produces an ion beam and which has a multiple collector, which is characterised in that it comprises an array of fixed collector elements arranged in the focal plane of the ion beam and which are laterally separated from each other by a predetermined distance together with a low power zoom lens placed in the path of the ion beam between the exit pole of the magnet and the array of fixed collector elements, the number of collector elements in the array being greater than the greatest number of long lived isotopes of any element to be analysed in the mass spectrometer.
