<p>A cable tray (20) comprising a pair of generally parallel spaced-apart metal sides (22, 24) and metal rungs (26) extending between the rails (22, 24) at intervals along the rails (22, 24). Each metal rung (26) has opposite ends (28, 30) generally abutting respective side rails (22, 24) and a pair of preformed openings (48, 50) extending inwardly from the opposite ends (48, 50) of the rung (26) lengthwise of the rung (26). A pair of metal mechanical fasteners (32) extend through the side rails (22, 24) and into respective preformed openings (48, 50) in the rung (26) to fasten the rung (26) to the side rails (22, 24). Each of the openings (48, 50) is defined by a rung structure (46) which, as viewed in a cross section taken transversely with respect to the rung (26), extends completely around the perimeter of the opening (48, 50) so that the perimeter of the opening is totally enclosed by the rung structure (46). Each of the fasteners (32) is engageable with the rung structure (46) defining a respective opening (48, 50) for securely holding the rung (26) in fixed position with respect to its respective side rail (22, 24).</p> |
