Combined mixing and shearing rotor

Mixing and shearing rotor fixed to a drive shaft located coaxially inside a drum. The blade (5) is curved, so that an increasing gap is formed between its periphery and the drum wall, and its axis (17 - Fig.2) is inclined to the cross-sectional centre-line (10) of the shaft at an angle ( beta ) about 30 deg maximum. Preferably the blade (5) is bent about its axis (17-Fig. 2) so that it forms an angle ( delta -Fig. 8b) which varies between 15 and 25 deg . The rotor is also fitted with a scraper (9), opposite blade (5). The trailing edge (13) of blade (5) is inclined at a maximum of about 30 deg to the drum wall. The angle between tangents (T1) and (T2) (Fig. 1) varies between 15 and 25 deg . In a multi-bladed construction (Fig. 16) the mixer/shear blades (205) and the scraper blades (209) are then separate entities which are fixed to adjacent rings (211) spaced along the shaft and connected to it by spokes.
