The converter (11) has a rectifier bridge (13) coupled to the AC network (17), incorporating a pair of controlled switches (21,31), an induction coil (23), a rectifier diode (25), a free-wheeling diode (33) and a smoothing capacitor (27), supplying the load (29). A control stage (41) provides control signals for parallel control of the switches, using a pulse width modulation control mode, with switching between the buck- and boost-converter operating principles twice during each half wave of the network signal.
