The rail vehicle makes provision for carrying bicycles (1) and various kinds of leisure equipment. The banks of seats (3) in the passenger compartment (2) can be moved from the passenger-use position to a position providing a secure space for the carriage of the bicycles etc. Each row of seats which has the movable banks of seats or groups of seats (4) provides at least three, preferably four passenger seats. The bank of seats has a backrest (3b) which can be folded down onto the seat surface and turned about a longitudinal axis (5a) against the side wall of the vehicle.
