The method involves measuring the ambient light incident on the body (1) at two points (3,5), which are at a defined distance apart in the direction (6) of movement of the body, during the movement of the body. The time variations of the ambient light at the two points are stored or recorded and compared with each other. Identical plot sections of the two varying signals (S1,S2) are associated with a movement distance which is identical with the separation distance of the two points.
