Cast head for multi-cylinder engine

The head (1) has two inlet (1a) and two outlet (1b) ports for each cylinder, while a coolant passage (1d) is formed in the head using a sand core (4). A recess (3) open to the underside is formed in the head below the inlet ports for each cylinder, and is connected by a drilling (1e) to the coolant passage. A sparking plug can be mounted at the cylinder centre, together with an injection nozzle below the inlet ports. The nozzle can be accommodated in a bore, while the recess can be so formed that the wall thickness is constant between it, the ports and the bore. The recess can be formed by machining the head.
