This invention relates to a tire end assembly to drive an individual tire of a motor vehicle, said assembly comprising a stationary annular axis which is operatively fixed to the vehicle, a tire hub pivotally mounted to, and coaxial with said axis, and an electric motor and inner and outer axially spaced speed reduction gear assemblies to drive the tire hub and vehicle tire to a speed lower than that of the motor outlet shaft. The assembly also comprises a cartridge bearing arranged between the inner and outer gear assemblies with the tire hub pivotally mounted to the axis through the cartridge bearing. The tire end assembly is advantageously configured so as to house a brake set disposed in encompassing relationship with the cartridge bearing arranged between the inner and outer gear assemblies, and to reduce to a minimum the length of the cartridge bearing assembly to the inner end thereof, therefore maximizing the available space from the vehicle central line associated to the inner end of the assembly in order to have an increased housing for the vehicle design fittings.
