<p>A device for image compression/expansion according to an international standard specification for image compression includes: a control unit (2) with an overall control processor and a processor for variable lengths, a pixel processing unit (3) for discrete cosine conversion and quantisation, an image buffer memory (51) which uses SDRAMs, a unit for movement prediction (41), a pixel data bus (PB) and a code bus (CB). The overall control processor which is provided in the control unit (2) exercises pipeline control to the image compression/expansion. As a result, the image compression/expansion can be carried out by operating units which are operated independently of each other, and the effect is pipeline processing. A device for image compression/expansion, which is suitable for operation at high speed, can thus be provided. <IMAGE></p> |
