The plant container is made from a base (1) and walls in the form of hollow square elements of lightweight concrete, weighing less than 1000 kg/m<3>. The concrete is made from an hydraulic cement and a high ratio of a lightweight granular material such as expanded polystyrene beads, cork, expanded clay, vermiculite or schist, expanded glass balls, wood or mineral particles or fibres of natural or synthetic materials. The sections of the container are made so that each one weighs not more than 50 kg, enabling them to be assembled by hand. In a variant the container can be assembled from slotted corner posts and side panels.
