Microwave frequency spatial attenuator panel e.g. for airborne antenna protection

The panel includes at least two wire networks which are spaced apart by a distance equal to a quarter wavelength of the EM waves which are absorbed or allowed to pass through the panel. The networks are linked via a switch which is actuated when the panel is working in absorption mode. The value of current absorbed is determined according to a relationship defined between the networks and is a function of the panel construction. Each network is formed from two sub-networks. Each sub-network has wires which are positioned in a general direction associated with a sub-network which has wires formed in a transverse direction.
