FIELD: production of refractories; production of silica bricks used in masonry of coke ovens and for lining metallurgical and glass-making furnaces. SUBSTANCE: proposed method employs feedstock having following composition, wt.%: quartzite 90.0-96.0; technical-grade silicon 0.5-7.0; mineralizing agent 2.0-2.8; temporary binder 0.7-1.0. Blanks are compacted, dried and subjected to firing in tunnel kiln at temperature 1400-1420 C. Firing duration within temperature range 1400-1420 C is 66-84 h, firing within range 1410-1420 C lasting for 12-16 h. Refractories have silica content 95.7- 96.0% and are characterized in following parameters: density 2.31 g/cu.cm, open porosity 17.2-19.9%, compressive strength 45.2-65.0 N/sq.mm, refractoriness 1690-1710 C, temperature of deformation onset under load 0.2 N/sq.mm 1650-1670 C, incremental growth at temperature 1450 C (after 2-h holding) 0.0-0.5% and at temperature 1500 C (2-h holding) 0.0- 0.006%, residual quartz content 1-2%.
