FIELD: nuclear engineering. SUBSTANCE: reactor functions as thermosiphon; to this end, working medium is introduced in its vessel, the latter is evacuated and sealed. Vessel is cylindrical in shape with horizontal axis. Bottom part of vessel that functions as evaporating region accommodates fuel elements and control rods; top part performing the function of condensing region has heat-transfer channels carrying coolant. Vessel is divided by vertical walls into separate sections. Thermosiphon working medium also functions as neutron moderator; boiling temperature of working medium is higher in sections most remote from coolant inlet. EFFECT: improved radiation safety and environmental friendliness of nuclear reactor, improved reliability and reduced metal input. |
