The instrument has an indicator drive system (1) controlling the movement of the hand (4) over the dial (3) and a separate light source (10) such as an LED for illuminating the indicator. This is fastened to a conductor plate (2) on the opposite side of the drive system to the dial side, below the shaft (5) of the indicator hand. This shaft consists of a tube with a reflective layer (8) of the inner side and may be filled with a light-conductive material. It thus conducts the light along the axial length of the tube to the indicator hand. The system provides an instrument of minimum depth and ensures equal and sufficient illumination of the hand in any position.
