Cold starting control for IC engine

The variation of pressure is monitored for each cylinder to provide a pressure change during the firing cycle. From this can be determined if the burn has been completed or not when the exhaust valve is opened. The cold starting control varies the fuel/air ratio and the ignition timing to provide an incomplete burn when the exhaust valve opens and thereby ensuring some fuel burn continues and provides rapid heating for the catalytic converter. Each cylinder is fitted with a pressure sensor (1 to 4) linked to the control (7) by a signal processing circuit (5). The normal pressure variation of each cylinder, during normal ignition cycle, is stored in the control and is compared with the actual values to determine the variations.
