<p>The crystal (1) is sealed by either glass-to-metal seals or epoxy to prevent moisture degradation within a housing. Combined with multiple barriers, the new configuration is long lasting and provide long life for the detector. The cladding layers (11, 23) and the mirror system (21) provide gas-free, high reflectivity crystal mirror surface. The mirror system (21) can be specular or diffusive. Curved shapes at the photodetector walls provide the first step in focusing light. Crystal (1) has an upper and lower truncated conical or pyramidal portions with rounded bottoms and tops. The truncated shapes encourage minimal internal reflections of photons generated in the crystal (1). The housing has upper and lower sections which follow the crystal (1) shape, and thin ring peripheral edges are welded together to avoid heat damage.</p> |
