A slider (10) for slide fasteners has a slider body (11) with a guide channel (18), a shielding bracket (14) slidably mounted thereon, a locking member (16) interposed between the slider body (11) and the bracket (14) having a locking prong (34) movable into and away from the guide channel (18) and a spring member (38) normally biasing the locking member (16) into abutting engagement with the shielding bracket (14). The shielding bracket 10 (14) is generally U-shaped with spaced upper and lower arms 24 and 25 slidably received in guide grooves 19 and 30, respectively, formed in the slider body (11). A pull tab (15) is pivotally connected to the shielding 15 bracket (14) for manipulating the slider (10) to open and close a slide fastener. The locking member (16) is completely shielded by the bracket (14) against exposure from the slider body (11).
