A dispensing apparatus for vending cigarettes is disclosed. The apparatus has banks of product stacks 1, each stack being acted upon by an individual plunger 8, but all the plungers associated with a bank being displaced by a single geared motor 24. Various means for improving the efficiency of the apparatus and preventing theft are disclosed. The apparatus may be unlocked for service by utilising a token validation unit such that upon entering a code at a product selection keypad a solenoid latch opens the apparatus.
