The fluid filter unit comprises a mounting for two filter vessels, either of which is connected to a supply and an off-stake line by block valves. Preferably, there is in addition, a bypass line interconnecting the supply chambers of both vessels. Two filter modules (7, 8) are fastened to opposite sides of a central module (6), in mirror symmetry with the central plane (22). Channels (9, 10) of the central module connect to the side modules, and there is also a supply (3) and an outlet (4) channel to the central block. Block valves (11, 12) allow the supply and outlet channels to be connected to either side module. The location of passages in the side chambers is such that, on changing the modules over, placing them on opposite sides of the central block, the flow direction can be reversed through the filter cartridges, to pass either inwardly or outwardly through them.
