A torsional vibration damper comprises a first machine part 2, eg a hub ring, connected to a second machine part 3, eg a flywheel, via an elastomeric spring body 4 which is vulcanized onto the hub 2 and adheres by means of adhesive surface 5. The body 4 is attached to the flywheel 3 by surface 6 which has adhesive portions and a non-adhesive portion. Flywheel 3 and the non-adhesive portion have complimentary trapezoidal guide surface profiles 7, ie meandering when viewed in cross-section, spaced apart by gap 8 which is formed by cooling after vulcanization. Gap 8 is filled, though a duct-shaped closable opening 13, under pressure with viscous damping fluid consisting of silicon oil. Other configurations are disclosed (see figs 2 to 5), for example the adhesive portions of the surface 6 may have a greater diameter than that of the guide surface profiles 7(see fig 3).
