The method involves a measuring device which has a housing (1) and a spindle (2) and/or a spindle nut (3) with a spindle nut binder (9). It also has at least one bearing and at least one spring. The spring is arranged between the housing and the spindle nut binder (9) or the bearing, and is supported against the housing. At least one sensor (5) is arranged to measure the displacement of the nut or the spindle or a bearing in the housing. The sensor may be an eddy current sensor. The nut binder is preferably made of non-ferromagnetic material and the bearing and/or the spring is of ferromagnetic material. A further sensor may also be provided at the height of the bearing.
