Laser radar arrangement e.g. for distance measurement between vehicles

The arrangement includes a laser radar head section for radiating laser light in a direction of an object, and for measuring the distance to that object, based on the period between a first point in time, at which the laser light is radiated, up to a second point in time, at which the laser light reflected from the object returns. A control section is connected to the laser radar head section for controlling its operation based on the distance measurement. An identification device is provided on the laser radar head section, to monitor a proper operation of the control section. The identification device pref. transmits an identification code to the control section, and awaits a predetermined response from the control section to enable the radiation of the laser light.
