A method of printing multicolored artwork by printing a limited number of inks in solid layers is disclosed. First and second sets of inks are preselected. A color palette is created from the innks and the combinations thereof from which artwork is created. Artwork color ink component data is filtered with a first filter to create a first set of data regarding the location of where the inks from the first set of inks are to be printed. A second filter is used to create a second set of data regarding the location of where the inks from the second set of inks are to be printed. Printing plates (20d-20i) are created from the first and second sets of data. The preselected inks are printed with the plates in solid layers, generating the multicolored artwork.
