Continuously variable transmission for motor vehicle

The continuously variable transmission (CVT) sets the transmission ratio to a programmed control in response to the throttle setting, engine speed, vehicle speed etc. For engine braking, when running down an incline with the throttle pedal released, the control applies a variable correction factor by altering the transmission ratio and thereby providing a controlled amount of engine braking. The control detects if the throttle has been released and provides a corresponding command signal to the engine braking control system. The vehicle acceleration is monitored and kept below a threshold value by changing the transmission ratio of the CVT.
