The brake valve has a valve piston (25) movable in the boring (26) of a valve casing (17), which is returned to the neutral position by springs. It locks a flow path between an outlet on the consumer side and one on the other side, and can be moved against the springs to the working position. The valve piston has a control edge (49) to reduce the aperture cross section of the flow path during movement to the neutral position, and a further control edge (56) by which the outlets are connected to each other in the neutral position. This edge is arranged so that pressure from the non-consumer side acts to close the aperture cross section.
