Horse is controlled using reins which comprise a cable formed at least partly by a sheath (2) of worsted and a core of plastic fibres (3). Preferably the fibres are of polyester and the sheath may also be of polyester and sheath and/or core may be plaited. A preferred form is as Western reins with two side parts and a tassel may be provided at one end.
