For the heat mirror-welding of two plastic pipes (23, 24), the pipe ends are cut obliquely to the central longitudinal axis (25) of the pipe. An intermediate piece (26) to be fitted between the two pipes (23, 24) is also cut obliquely at the ends. For welding, the intermediate piece (26) is fitted in a radially shifted position between the pipe ends and moved transversely to the pipes (23, 24) for final welding.
