The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display having a shading member, and in particular to a method of manufacturing such a shading member. The method comprises the steps of: forming an ITO film on a transparent substrate; and selectively reducing a specified region of said ITO film in order to decrease the transparency of the region of said ITO film. In this way the shading member is formed in the ITO film that forms the common electrode, and hence provides a compact arrangement. The shading member formed by this method, when incorporated in a liquid crystal display, absorbs both background light and light incident on it from a back light and so reduces the amount of light entering the transistors of the display. <IMAGE> |
