PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the activity of a catalyst for producing paraffin by an ammoxidation method by forming a catalyst precursor substance represented by a specific formula to add an element to the surface thereof and calcining the whole. SOLUTION: A catalyst precursor substance represented by formula VSbm Aa Dd Ox (wherein A is one or more of Ti, Sn or the like, D is one or more of Li, Ag or the like, m is about 0.5-10, (a) is 0.01-10, (d) is 0.0001-2.0 and (x) is the number of oxygen atoms necessary for satisfying the necessity of valency) is formed and at least a D-element is added to the surface of the catalyst precursor substance and this surface modified catalyst precursor substance is calcined. The D-element is added by immersing the catalyst precursor substance in a soln. containing the D-element and drying the impregnated one. The surface modified catalyst precursor substance is calcined, for example, at 100-1200 deg.C for the purpose of activation. By this constitution, excellent capacity can be obtained to the ammoxidation of propane to acrylonitrile. |
