MULTIBAND PHASED ARRAY ANTENNA WITH ALTERNATELY ARRANGED TAPERED ELEMENT RADIATOR AND WAVEGUIDE RADIATOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To multiband phased array antenna employing broad band radiation elements to obtain an operating frequency range in excess of two octaves. SOLUTION: In order to promote simultaneous radiation of antenna beams over a band width in excess of two octaves, tapered element radiators 60A, 60B and a waveguide radiator 40 are arranged alternately. Radiation ends of the waveguide radiators 40 define a ground plane as a mass. The tapered element radiators 60A, 60B are provided with tapered wing pairs extended in excess of the ground plane by a distance selected to establish a radiation impedance of the predetermined tapered wings. Radiators of each type are spaced by a span not surely generating a grating lobe.
