Coated substrate for use as a toner recording medium and method of making same

A toner recording medium including a substrate, such as paper, containing a coating composition of particulate silica and a polyvinyl alcohol in a coating weight of less than 2.0 g/m2 per side of the substrate. The composition is preferably about 50 to less than 90 parts by dry weight of particulate silica and about 10 to 50 parts by dry weight binder. A process is also disclosed for coating a substrate, such as paper, to produce a toner recording medium.
