PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain optically active 1-(m-benzyloxyphenyl)alkylamine by optically resolving the corresponding racemate with an optically active phenylacetic acid compound as an optical resolving agent. SOLUTION: A compound of formula I (R is a lower alkyl) is reacted with a compound of formula II (X is H, a halogen, methoxy; * expresses an asymmetric carbon atom) in a solvent (e.g. methanol-water) at -20 to the boiling point of the solvent, separating the deposited diastereomer salt as crystals, and subsequently treating the separated crystals with a base (e.g. NaOH) to obtain the optically active 1-(m-benzylphenyl) alkylamine compound. The optically resolving agent is used in an amount of 0.1-1.2 times moles the compound of formula I. The employment of formula II as the optical revolving agent enables to easily and efficiently obtain the compound of formula III in a high purity and also readily recover and recycle the compound of formula II. |
