Apparatus for transferring liquid cargoes such as oil or discrete solids entrained in liquid to and from ships comprises a jetty structure mounting a counterbalanced rigid boom having longitudinal ducts. A boom 11 having main and auxiliary flow pipes 12, 13 is mounted on a trunnion bearing 45 of a post 38 of a jetty support structure 14 and is provided with adjustable counterbalance weights 16. Flexible hoses 26, 33 having fittings 28, 35 for connection to the ships' manifolds are connected to the end of the ducts of the boom through articulated couplings 23, 25, 29 and 34 respectively. The pipes 12, 13 extend coaxially through the post 38 and terminate in distributer arms 53, 54 which by rollers 56, 57 run on a curved runway 58 so that flexible bellows connections 59 can be positioned over risers 64, 65 arranged in an arc on the jetty. The weights 16 are adjusted so that the boom rises to a vertical position with the pipes empty and a block and tackle 18 connected to a trolley 21 is used to pull it into a position for connection to the risers. When the ship connection has been made and the pipes are filled the boom should be in balance. |
