PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magneto-optical recording medium excellent in durability by using substrates made of polycarbonate almost free from a low mol.wt. component, etching the substrates under specified conditions and thickly applying an adhesive for sticking. SOLUTION: Magneto-optical recording layers are formed on substrates made of polycarbonate and the substrates are stuck to each other so that the recording layer sides confront each other. The polycarbonate has a mol.wt. of <=1,000 (expressed in terms of polystyrene) and contains <=0.5wt.% low mol.wt. component. The surfaces of the substrates on which the recording layers are formed are etched for >=60sec under the conditions of 0.5-1.0Pa pressure of inert gas and 850-900W/m<2> power density and the recording layers are formed by sputtering. An adhesive is applied in 50-100μm thickness to the bonding faces of the substrates and the bonding faces are stuck to each other to obtain the objective magneto-optical recording medium.
