PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a distributed feedback semiconductor laser which is capable of performing polarized wave switching with improved reproducibility and stability. SOLUTION: A polarized wave switching laser is a distributed feedback semiconductor laser oscillating in two cross polarized wave modes. A light resonator constituting the semiconductor laser is divided into three regions 11, 12, and 13. The equivalent refractive index differences of waveguide paths 104, 105, and 106 for two polarized electromagnetic radiation modes differs from one another at two regions 11 and 13 at both edges of three regions. The equivalent refractive index difference of the waveguide path for the two polarized wave modes is minimized or maximized among three regions 11, 12, 13. |
