PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface light emitting device of high luminance and also of high image quality by enhancing the accuracy in separating polarized light and effectively using the light. SOLUTION: The device is provided with a light transmission plate 12 constituted by laminating different media 21 and 22 which are adjacently arranged in an inclined state in the thickness direction, a linear light source 1 arranged near the incident face of the light transmission plate 12, a 1/4 wavelength plate 5 arranged near the end face opposite to the incident face of the light transmission plate 12, a 1st reflecting plate 6 arranged outside the 1/4 wavelength plate 5 and a 2nd reflecting plate 7 arranged near the opposite face of the outgoing face of the light transmission plate 12, and the phase difference of the polarization from the outgoing face is <=200nm in the thickness direction of the light transmission plate 12. |
