Disclosed is a method to sense near distance of a compact camera, and apparatus thereof. By the method, distance to the object is monitored whether it is a near distance or not. When a near distance is detected, the location sensor is moved from the light sensor so that the reflection angle of the location sensor is enlarged. Thereby, the object is able to be accurately photographed, so that reliability of the camera is improved.
