Proposed is a housing for receiving a gas generator and an airbag for a passenge r protective system in a motor vehicle, which, together with the gas generator, th e airbag and, in some cases, a protective covering, a lid and fastening means, for ms a module ready for installation. According to the invention, the housing (1) is co mposed of an essentially U-shaped body (2) and two mainly flat end covers (3). The body (2) has a uniform cross section lengthwise. The end covers (3) are joined to the bod y (2) by tension means (4, 5) disposed in the axial direction of the body (2). The ten sion means (4, 5) serve simultaneously for fastening the airbag (6) and, in some case s, a protective covering (7) or a lid (8). For the manufacture of the body (2), sections severed by cuts made perpendicular to the longitudinal axis from a stock material; the stock material can be a sheet-m etal stock material, or an extruded stock material.
