PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To thin a protective layer and heighten its transparency by using a continuous film composed of magnesium oxide particulates of 100nm or less in diameter as the protective layer of an AC plasma display. SOLUTION: A pair of electrodes composed of an X electrode 4a and a Y electrode 4b are formed on the face of a front board 1 opposite to a back board 2. The pair of electrodes are coated by a glass-made dielectric layer 5, and sol solution, which is prepared by dispersing the aggregate substance of the magnesium hydroxide particles in organic solvent, is applied to the layer 5. Thereafter, the same is dried and burnt to form a protective layer 6 of 0.2μm thick made of a magnesium oxide film by which the same is coated. The protective layer 6 is a continuous film composed of magnesium oxide particulates of 100nm or less in diameter. An address electrode 7, a barrier 8, and a phosphor layer 9 are formed on the face of the board 2 opposite to the board 1, and further a titanium dioxide film 10 and a silicon dioxide film 11 are formed as reflection preventive layers on demand. |
