PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow the user to easily recognize whether or not his/her own portable telephone set is in a range for normal speech without taking the portable telephone set out of a bag and confirming its display. SOLUTION: A position discrimination device 10 receives at least a control signal 38 sent from a base station 39 to a portable telephone set 11 or a reply signal 52 sent from the portable telephone set 11 to the base station 39 and compares its reception level with a setting level to estimate the relation of position between the base station 39 and the portable telephone set 11 to make display based on the estimate.
