The starting system for a petrol engine has an injection unit (13,23,30) that injects a gaseous fuel such as natural gas into each inlet port (3) during initial operation of the engine, with petrol being admitted in place of the gas when the engine has reached normal operating temperature. The injection system has a solenoid valve (13) to control passage of the gas fuel. The solenoid valve is operated by the starting contactor (12). A flow regulator (23) in series with the solenoid valve is controlled by the vacuum created by the engine in each inlet port. Special injection lines (29) are provided for the gas. A valve (30) controls flow of liquid fuel, blocking flow while the engine is cold. An electronic circuit (21) processes a temperature signal (22) to control closure of the gas valve. |
