Collision protection for vehicle occupants

The improved control system for the collision protection has the output of impact sensor processed to determine if a genuine collision has occurred or if a sharp impact has been detected which does not warrant a release of the protection system. The control system adds a varying signal to the output of the impact sensor, via a subtraction/integration circuit, and integrates the combined signal to provide the control signal. The control system uses simple logic circuits to differentiate between the different types of impact, and the effect of sharp cornering, etc. to prevent premature release of the collision protection system. The protection systems include airbags and safety belt tensioners.
