The guide bars (36, 44, 46) in a warp knitter have at least one auxiliary guide bar (72), moving to and fro along the guide bar length. It has at least one auxiliary yarn guide (76), which is moved in relation to the guide bars (36, 44, 46). Pref. the auxiliary yarn guide (76) is on the same displacement plane as the yarn guides (48). The guide bars (36, 44, 46) are hollow profiles (64) with inner guides for the auxiliary guide bar (72). The auxiliary guide bar (72) is held in the base position pref. by spring (80) pressure. The auxiliary guide bar (72) is moved by a pref. adjustable limit stop (106), acting on the bar (72) during the displacement of the guide bars (36, 44, 46). Alternatively the auxiliary guide bar (72) has its own drive. The guide bars (36, 44, 46) are at a level (100) of a recirculating unit (96), powered by a reversing motor (88), through an adjustable reduction gearing (92).
